Ticks, ticks and more ticks

Arlington Organic Garden Club: Creature Feature: Ticks, ticks and more ticks
By Ruthy on Friday, September 21, 2001 - 10:12 pm:

I recently moved to a new subdivision here in Arlington. I'm trying to start out organic from the beginning, however, I have a SERIOUS tick problem. One of my dogs nearly died from both erlichyosis (pardon my spelling) and lyme disease, not to mention severe anemia. I have tried applying boric acid but I think the ticks are just getting worse. I was told diatomaceous earth would work but haven't been able to find it in bulk. Any ideas?

Hi Ruthy, Sorry for all of the problems you are having...You need to treat the ground with beneficial Nematodes..They will get the eggs and small Ticks before you see them. I would use herbal shampoo on the dogs, make sure it has orange oil in it...Good luck...You can go to Howard Garrett's web-site through www.wbap.com to ask any more questions......

Also, Ruthy, you can find diatomaceous earch at most of the organic nurseries, and at feed stores. That should help as well (you'll only be using a light dusting) but I'd do the Nematodes and herbal shampoos as David suggested regardless of what else you do.
