How do I apply these products? Any good local (Metroplex) sources for bulk (at least 50# bags) of corn meal or corn gluten meal? It seems the garden centers sell such small quantities that the cost is prohibitive. What about dried molasses?

Kevin, for larger quantities of these products, I'd try a feed store. Adam's feed store in Arlington, or Marshall Grain in Ft. Worth (www.marshallgrain.com), might be able to help.

Oh, and for application of greensand and lava sand, try our fertilizer calculator here.
Texas greensand can be applied at approximately 50 lb./1000 sq. ft., and lava sand at about 80 lb./1000 sq. ft., but you can apply less according to your budget. I just dump the sand in buckets and throw it on the lawn by hand. The application doesn't have to be perfectly even because neither of these products will burn or create artificially green splotches in your yard.

Speaking of sand...
I am confused. When do I use lava sand, zeolite, decomposed granite and greensand.
Do they each serve a different purpose!

Yes, It is confusing. Lava sand has no fertilizing are improvement to soils. It has water holding ability. Zeolite,Granite, and greensand are all good for trace minerials, and should only be used once in a while not every year.
I would keep a yard diary, on what was used, how much was put out,and what brand name was used. That way you never have to try and remember anything....It is hard enough remembering everything else in this world.....

Does Greensand reduce the pH of whatever it's added to?

What is a source for large amounts of lava sand in the Rockwall or Dallas area?
How much does a truckload of it cost?
